Benefits of Beeswax
Beeswax is extremely valuable to beekeepers. It is a sustainable, zero-waste resource. During hive inspections and honey harvests, beekeepers will gather excess comb and cappings to ensure none of the bees’ hard work goes to waste. Honeybees produce wax from special glands in their stomachs. They build-out the wax within their hive, forming comb. Drawn wax is an essential component of the hive. It is needed for the queen to lay her eggs and for worker bees to store resources, such as honey and pollen.
So, in addition to making honey, honeybees naturally produce beeswax, which contains its own realm of beneficial perks and properties!
It is said that when used cosmetically to nourish the skin, beeswax provides a natural, protective barrier to lock in moisture and protect your skin from environmental irritants and unkind weather. Beeswax should not clog pores, allowing skin to breathe openly. It can also contain vitamins, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties.
